Empowering Farmers in Kenya
Strengthening food systems, improving dietary diversity, and enhancing nutrition outcomes for vulnerable households and communities across Kenya
Ke Devries Company Limited implements integrated Food, Nutrition, and Community Nutrition Programmes that strengthen food systems, improve dietary diversity, and enhance nutrition outcomes for vulnerable households and communities. Our approach links agriculture, markets, behaviour change, and social inclusion to address the root causes of malnutrition while building resilient livelihoods.

Many communities across Kenya continue to experience poor nutrition outcomes driven by low dietary diversity, food insecurity, limited nutrition knowledge, and weak linkages between agricultural production and household nutrition. Women, young children, adolescents, and low-income households are disproportionately affected, particularly in rural and peri-urban settings.
Ke Devries' Food and Nutrition Programme responds to these challenges through nutrition-sensitive programming that integrates food production, income generation, community education, and systems strengthening. The programme supports both preventive and promotive nutrition interventions, aligned with national nutrition policies and global best practices.
We promote food systems that increase the availability, affordability, and consumption of diverse and nutritious foods. This includes supporting smallholder farmers, youth, and women-led enterprises to produce nutrient-dense crops, improve post-harvest handling, and strengthen market access. Our interventions ensure that agriculture contributes directly to improved household nutrition.
Ke Devries works with communities to improve nutrition knowledge, attitudes, and practices through participatory behaviour change communication. We support community dialogue, peer learning, and household-level counselling to promote optimal dietary practices, maternal and child nutrition, food preparation, hygiene, and care practices.
Our programmes strengthen community-level systems to support improved nutrition for pregnant and lactating women, infants, and young children. This includes promoting appropriate infant and young child feeding practices, diversified household diets, and linkages between health, agriculture, and social support services.
We integrate nutrition with livelihood and enterprise development, recognising that income security and nutrition are closely linked. The programme supports women and youth to access skills, finance, and market opportunities in nutrition-related value chains, including food processing, aggregation, and distribution.
Ke Devries supports county governments, community-based organisations, and local institutions to plan, implement, and monitor nutrition-sensitive interventions. We strengthen coordination across agriculture, health, education, and social protection sectors, and promote the use of data for evidence-based nutrition planning.
Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion: Ensuring equitable access to nutrition services and opportunities for women, youth, persons with disabilities, and marginalised groups.
Promoting climate-smart food production and resilient food systems that protect nutrition outcomes under changing climate conditions.
Using nutrition assessments, community feedback, and monitoring systems to inform adaptive programming and learning.
